An opener rarely dies quietly. The remote starts working only from the end of the drive, the motor hums but will not pull, the door reverses at the same spot every time, or the unit is dead after a storm took the grid down. There is a heat fault here that almost nobody diagnoses correctly. A motor head sitting in a hundred-and-twenty-degree garage will hit its thermal cut-out and stop, then work perfectly the same evening once the garage has cooled. Homeowners describe it as intermittent and get sold a control board; the actual answer is usually thermal overload from heat plus a door that is out of balance and making the motor work harder than it should.
